Stem Separation: Split Any Song into Stems, Fully Offline
A finished song is a single stereo mix, but a lot of creative work needs the parts back: a remix needs the vocal on its own, a clean-up needs to isolate the drums, a cover needs the instrumental. Stem separation rebuilds those parts from the mix, and PumpyDumpy2AudioMaster (PD2AM) does it locally on your PC, so there is no upload and no cap on how many songs you process.
Under the hood it uses Demucs, one of the best open-source source-separation models, to split a track into clean, usable stems you can preview and export individually.
The Four Stems You Get
PD2AM produces a standard four-stem split from a single pass:
- Vocals: the lead and backing voice, isolated for acapellas or repair.
- Drums: the full kit, ready for re-balancing or replacement.
- Bass: the low end on its own for tightening or remixing.
- Other: everything else - guitars, keys, synths, and pads.
Keep all four, combine some, drop the vocal for an instrumental, or isolate the vocal for an acapella - one separation covers every use case.
Offline and Private by Design
Because the Demucs model is bundled into the installer, your song never leaves your computer. There is no upload, no cloud queue, and no account that stores your files - which matters when you are working with unreleased material, client tracks, or anything you would rather keep off a third-party server. It is also faster in practice: no upload time, no download wait, and no daily cap.
How Modern Stem Separation Works
Old tricks like centre-channel cancellation only ever produced a hollow karaoke track. Demucs is different: it is a trained model that listens to the audio and reconstructs each instrument as its own track. That is why the stems sound natural and usable rather than smeared. Load a file, run the split, audition each stem, and export the ones you need.
What Producers Use Stems For
- Remixes and mashups: drop an acapella over a new instrumental, or rework the original parts.
- Clean-ups: isolate and repair a noisy vocal or rebalance a muddy mix.
- Sampling: lift a clean drum or bass part to build something new.
- Practice and covers: mute the instrument you want to play or sing over.
Beyond Stems: Repair, Master, and Deliver
Stem separation is one tool in a full audio pipeline. Once you have your stems, PD2AM can repair the vocal, build an instrumental or acapella, denoise with DeepFilterNet, master the mix to streaming loudness, and export a delivery pack. It also bridges to its companion app PumpyDumpy2Visual for turning a track into a music video.
Pricing
PumpyDumpy2AudioMaster is free to download and use, with a light watermark on exported audio. Pro removes the watermark and grants a commercial-use license for $20/month or $200/year. The same Pro subscription also unlocks PumpyDumpy2Visual, so you get the audio toolkit and the music-video app for one price. Already a PumpyDumpy2Visual Pro subscriber? Your existing key activates PD2AM too.
